Victims identified, suspect arrested in Park DuValle triple homicide

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The names of three people murdered in a Park DuValle home this weekend have been released.

Police say two of the victims, 40-year-old Larry Thomas and 37-year-old John Bailey, were from Baltimore, Md. We're told the third victim, 44-year-old Michael Bass Sr., lived at the home on Louis Coleman Jr. Drive where the shooting happened.

"Never would I have imagined that it would happen this close to me," said Anthony Middleton, who lives a few doors down.

Monday, police arrested 31-year-old William Mason Jr. in connection to the case. Police haven't released a motive, but say they've ruled out anything gang or domestic related.

"We are looking in a certain direction and will continue to investigate," said LMPD Homicide Unit Lt. Todd Kessinger. "Once we've interviewed and made contact with everybody involved, at that point, we'll be able to release a motive or more specific statement."

Mason has a lengthy criminal history involving drugs and guns. His relationship with the victims still isn't completely clear.

"They were all associates and friends of at least one person in common with the other," Kessinger said.

Middleton says he's never noticed anything suspicious going on at the home and knows the man who owns it well. We're told Bass was staying there with the owner.

Bass' mother says her son was a father of two, a good guy and will be missed.

"It is just a taste of reality, in that none of us are exempt from these kinds of incidents happening," Middleton, a pastor, said. "You just don't know. There's so much distress and stress in our community that these things are apt to happen on any street, on any avenue, in any house, in any place."

Mason is facing three counts of murder. He's scheduled to go before a judge Tuesday morning.
