LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Damion Lee and Trey Lewis are big backcourt losses, but University of Louisville coach Rick Pitino updated his 2016-17 backcourt by saying the depth and quality of his guards and wings has been “impressive” in offseason workouts.

In a blog entry at RickPitino.net, Pitino writes that Deng Adel, Donovan Mitchell and Quentin Snider lead the way.

Of Adel, Pitino wrote that, “his sophomore season should be special.” He called him, “quick and explosive” and said he’s one of several players to improve their jump shot over the spring.

Another is sophomore Donovan Mitchell, who Pitino said is trying to get down to 185 pounds to improve his quickness and defense.

Pitino called co-captain and point guard Quentin Snider “Mr. Consistency.”

Of the newcomers, Pitino said he was surprised at the quickness and defensive ability of transfer Tony Hicks, and that he’s impressed with the overall ability of freshman V.J. King, who “will see a lot of playing time as a freshman. Playing against Deng every day will get him ready.”
