Flags planted for veterans at Churchill Downs ahead of Saturday's Spring Meet finale

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Underneath the Twin Spires, you'll see lots of red, white and blue this weekend.

Volunteers from Flags4Vets are planting flags in the Jockey Garden at Churchill Downs.

They'll be in place for Saturday night's Downs After Dark, which is the final event of the Spring Meet.

"When people are walking in here to enjoy the weekend, we remember what started on July 4, 1776, and the sacrifices our troops have made from that very day forward," said Frederick Moore with Flags4Vets.

Extra flags will also be hand for race fans to plant in honor of a loved one who is currently serving or has served in the military.
