LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville man who police say confessed to killing his 3-year old daughter, went before a judge on Tuesday.

The girl's body was found Monday morning at the Glenhill Manor Apartments, which is in Valley Station, near the Dixie Highway-Gene Snyder interchange.

Spindle Johnson, 31, entered a plea of not guilty. The young victim's family members were in tears as they watched the hearing.

Johnson is charged with murder. A judge said he's not allowed to talk to the victim's family.

Police say Johnson admitted to killing his 3-year-old daughter, Sarai Stanford. Authorities say Johnson called the Sheriff's Department himself, to report that the girl was unconscious. Police say she died from some type of blunt force trauma.

"One of the residents let the officers inside to check on the welfare of the child. The child was found deceased. Any time it's anybody, it's tragic, but particularly, when they are children who haven't had an opportunity to live this life on any real level," said LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell.

Investigators say the girl's mother was not home at the time, and that she and Johnson are estranged.

LMPD's Homicide Unit is investigating. Officials say there are no additional suspects.

Johnson's being held on a $1 million bond.
