Mega Millions madness takes over Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- As the Mega Millions jackpot continues to soar, so too does the number of people lined up for a ticket in Louisville.

"Everyone is hoping it's them that wins," said Ty, a clerk at Bader's.

The gas station on South 1st Street was full Tuesday afternoon with people ready to take a chance.

"It's just an adrenaline rush," said Shelby Kahler, a lottery player.

After the 33rd consecutive drawing with no winner on Friday, the Mega Millions jackpot surged. Now, it sits at $454 million. That's in the top ten for biggest jackpots of all time.

"It could make a big difference. It could change your life," Ty said.

What would you do with it? Some people are going big.

"I would invest. A lot of investments," Ty said.

Then there are others who want to do what's best for their loved ones.

"I'd like to get my car paid off. I'd like to get insurance for my family members who don't have insurance," said Teresa Hancock, a Louisville resident.

Frequent players say strategies are big, especially when it comes to picking numbers. Some choose digits that mean something to them. Others allow the computer to do the deciding.

It's no shock that the odds for winning aren't great -- one in 259,000,000, to be exact.

You're more likely to be struck by lightning or attacked by a shark.

"I'll take my odds," Hancock said.

The winning numbers will be drawn Tuesday at 11 p.m.
