LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Shepherdsville man has been arrested after authorities say he set up a sexual rendezvous with an undercover investigator he thought was a minor.

According to an arrest report, it started on the night of Monday, June 27, when the Kentucky Office of the Attorney General says 24-year-old Jonathen Howerton got into an online conversation on the Kik Messenger app with an undercover investigator who was posing as a minor.

Authorities say Howerton, "made the conversation sexual in nature and requested the minor persona to engage in sex acts with him."

According to the arrest report, Howerton arranged to meet the undercover officer -- still thinking that officer was a minor -- at a Jeffersontown movie theater, so that the "minor" could perform those sex acts.

Howerton showed up at a location at Sycamore Place, near Tucker Station Road, in Jeffersontown Tuesday evening, where authorities arrested him. He allegedly admitted to being there to meet the supposed minor for sex acts.

Authorities say he was carrying a loaded handgun.

Howerton's wife and father spoke to WDRB News. Howerton's wife, who declined to go on camera says her husband is an armed security officer who replenishes ATM's. She said they have two children, that he is a good man, and that she continues to support him.

Howerton's father, Nathen Howerton, says this situation is very difficult for their family.

"I only have two children of my own," he said. "He's my oldest, my first. This is really heard. I come from a family where my father done the same thing to me. So I would never do it my children and to see him do this breaks my heart."

He also said he took issue with the way his son was arrested.

"Honest opinion, it's partially entrapment," he said. "I don't see how they can legally do it. Yes, the intent was there. Was an actual crime committed? No."

He goes on say his daughter-in law-is, "a brand new mother in there, with a two-week-old child. She don't need the stress. I know the boy screwed up, did something stupid."

And he had his message for his son is, "I still love him and I'm sorry."

Howerton is charged with engaging in the prohibited use of an electronic communication system to procure a minor for a sex act. He is currently being held at Louisville Metro Corrections.

On Wednesday morning, a not guilty plea was entered on Howerton's behalf. A Jefferson County judge ordered Howerton not to have any contact with minors or computers. His bond is set at $50,000.
