LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The University of Louisville gets more than $1 million to make sure every child in the region has access to the very best care.

Norton Healthcare presented a $1.25 million grant to U of L on Wednesday morning.

The money will go toward pediatric research at the university's School of Medicine.

Kosair, which is owned by Norton Healthcare, is the primary pediatric teaching facility for U of L medical students.

"We train well over 100 medical residents on any given day right here in this hospital. We're training the next generation of pediatric sub-specialists, in emergency medicine, in critical care, neonatalology, palmatology, in oncology, the list goes on," said Tom Kmetz, Division President for Norton Healthcare.

The grant money will provide one year of funding to six areas of research, including pediatric surgery and U of L's Autism Center at Kosair.
