JCPS to offer back-to-school events beginning with Kindergarten ReadyFest

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Students attending kindergarten this school year will have the opportunity to get free dental screenings and school supplies beginning next week at Kindergarten ReadyFest, according to a news release from Jefferson County Public Schools.

The annual festival will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, at Pleasure Ridge Park (P.R.P.) High School at 5901 Greenwood Road. It kicks off a series of back-to-school events sponsored by JCPS and various community partners, including Neighborhood Place and the Louisville Metro Department of Community Services, that provide school and health supplies to students.

"We want all of our students prepared and ready to learn on the first day of the school year," said JCPS Superintendent Dr. Donna Hargens, according to the news release. "ReadyFest and our many other back-to-school events provide JCPS students and their families an important opportunity to pick up free supplies and learn more about the programs and resources available to them throughout the school year."

The event features music, games and other activities for students and their families. JCPS will be on-hand to provide students with free workbooks and supplies, help families complete paperwork for free and reduced school meals, let students take a ride on a school bus and schedule appointments for free uniforms through the Clothing Assistance Program.

Students will also be able to receive a free dental screening, which is required for incoming kindergarteners.
