Navy SEAL's death ruled a homicide after he drowned during training

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A California medical examiner says a Navy SEAL trainee died because he was repeatedly dunked by his instructor.

The autopsy report says James Lovelace died from drowning and had a contributing heart problem.

The 21-year-old's death has been ruled a homicide, but that doesn't necessarily mean a crime occurred.

The instructor hasn't been charged.

Lovelace was pulled out of a pool during a swimming exercise in May. The military says he lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital, where he died.
