Jeffersontown Police and recovering addicts come together to kick off the Angel Program

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Working together to get rid of a social stigma.

That was the goal of Saturday's special cookout in Louisville.

Jeffersontown Police and recovering addicts came together in Cherokee Park to kick off the Angel Program.

The program allows addicts to go to police stations and admit they're addicted to drugs.

Instead of being put behind bars, an officer will help find the right program for recovery.

"It's an awesome opportunity for the law enforcement and people in recovery from substance abuse. We can come together and try to break that stigma that divides us," said Tara Moseley.

The program goes into effect after August 1st.
