Louisville to distribute free electric fans to disabled seniors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The city of Louisville will be distributing free electric fans to disabled seniors at a "Fan Fair" giveaway on Saturday.

According to a news release from the Department of Community Services, the event will take place on Saturday, July 16, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the United Steelworkers Local 1693 headquarters at 1233 S. 10th Street.

"Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, community organizations, and residents, hundreds of electric fans have been collected to provide heat relief for seniors and people with disabilities," the news release states.

Fans will be available on a first-come, first served basis. Anyone who receives a fan must first meet the following requirements:

1) They must be a person of age 60 years or older.
2) If they are not of age 60 years or older, they must provide documentation by a physician that they have a physical disability.
3) They must be a resident of Jefferson, Oldham, Henry, Shelby, Spencer, Trimble, or Bullitt counties.
4) They must provide proof of address and age.
5) Only one fan will be distributed per household.

A health fair will coincide with the fan giveaway event to provide basic health checks and information from local resources. According to the news release, participating vendors will include AARP, Kentuckiana Regional Planning & Development Agency (KIPDA), Stroke Association of Kentucky & Southern Indiana, Sickle Cell Association of Kentuckiana, U of L School of Dentistry, the Local Long Term Care Ombudsman and Louisville Metro Community Services. 

Louisville Pure Tap water will also be provided.
