LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say an anonymous phone call to Metrosafe led them to a home where three children were left alone inside.

According to an arrest report, someone called 911, provided an address, then hung up the phone. It happened on Tuesday afternoon.

When police arrived at the home on N. 26th Street, near Rowan Street, and knocked on the door, three young children answered, according to the arrest report. Police say the children told them no one else was home. That's when the oldest child began to cry and said she was scared because she didn't know where her mother was.

After some questions, police say the girl told them that her mom might be at the store or across the street.

The girl's mother, 28-year-old Jennise Darby, was eventually found at the Dairy Mart near the corner of S. 28th Street and W. Market Street, according to police. Police say they gathered information about Darby and tried to determine who the parents of the other two children were. Darby told officers she had a number in her phone, so they let her go inside her house to get it.

That's when, police say, she ran out the back door, "abandoning her child again." She returned a short time later.

Police arrested her and charged her with three counts of first degree wanton endangerment. She is currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
