LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville has been selected as one of 50 cities to participate in First Lady Michelle Obama's initiative, "Let's Move Outside!"

The program encourages young people to play, learn and work outside. It's funded through a $5 million national commitment by the American Express Foundation.

The money provides two years of funding for the YMCA of Greater Louisville to help increase participation in outdoor programs.

"This project is going to help ensure that everybody in our community, no matter what neighborhood they're from, no matter what their zip code is, has access to safe places where they can get outside, learn to fish, to hike, to paddle, canoe -- develop a life long connection with nature."

Officials hope to reach more than 10 million kindergarten children through high school age students nationwide.
