One person hospitalized after shooting during apparent home invasion
A woman who lives in the home says her brother saw two men breaking in and shot one of them.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police are investigating after a man was shot during an apparent home invasion in the Beechmont neighborhood early Friday.
It happened at a home in the 100 block of East Ashland Avenue near South First Street. A woman who lives in the home says her brother noticed two men breaking into the basement around 7:30 a.m. She says her brother shot one of the men in the leg.
That man was taken to University Hospital, but there's no word yet on his condition. According to LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell, his injuries do not appear life-threatening.
The woman we spoke with told us her young niece was inside the home when the shooting occurred. She says she just moved to the area a few months ago, and doesn’t know the men.
LMPD Lt. Todd Kessinger says home invasions are not that uncommon.
"We see a lot of burglaries, daytime burglaries," Kessinger A lot of times I've seen it where people knock on your door and if nobody answers, they attempt to break in, thinking nobody's inside. It's not rare. It does happen. Obviously, it doesn't happen like this very often."
Police say they are searching for the second man.
Anyone with information is asked to call the LMPD crime tipline at 574-LMPD.
