LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- There was a repeat winner and a first-time champion in the 72nd edition of the Jr. Falls Cities Golf Tournament at Seneca Golf Course.
Mason Lenhart, a Senior at North Oldham won his second straight title defeating St. Xavier Junior Drew Hinkebein. Lenhart birdied three of his first six holes and was 6-up after the opening 18 holes in the 36-hole match play final. He was still 6-up when Hinkebein won three straight holes to get within 3-up but he got no closer.
The Girls winner was 14-year-old Molly Bebelaar. The South Oldham Sophomore was 3-down after the first four holes against Sacred Heart Sophomore Taylor Edlin, but rallied to get the lead on the 14th hole and prevailed 3-and-1 in the 18-hole final.
Bebelaar said it was kind of fun to play her friend in the final because it was "super intense"but that it got a little more intense as the match went on. She didn't panic after getting down early.
"I wasn't too upset because I knew there was a lot of golf to play and I knew I could come back," said Bebelaar. "I just kept thinking strong."
The daughter of Big Spring Country Club pro Gary Bebelaar said she hit the ball pretty well all week and that the key to her comeback in the final match was making more putts.
"It's super exciting because I've never won before and I lost to the winner last year in like the first round so it's pretty awesome."
