LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- MetroSafe confirms that Louisville Metro Police responded Saturday morning to a fatal accident in the area of Outer Loop and New Cut Road.

Officials say a call about the accident came in at 11:35 a.m.

Officers with LMPD's Traffic Unit and 3rd Division went to the scene.

LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley says the accident occurred on Outer Loop just west of where the road intersects with New Cut Road.

Authorities say witnesses stated a Plymouth Neon was traveling west on Outer Loop when for an unknown reason the driver of the Neon veered into the eastbound lanes and collided with a Chevy Malibu.

According to Smiley, the driver of the Neon, who was a male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was the only person in the Neon, according to police.

Smiley also stated that three people were inside the Malibu. Two of the occupants were taken to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officials say a child was also inside the Malibu and was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Smiley said it is not clear at this point if alcohol, drugs or speed were factors in the accident.
