HALL COUNTY, Ga. (WAGA/FOX 5) -- State and local officials said they are using sonar and divers to search for two people who were aboard a speedboat which capsized Friday afternoon on Lake Lanier. Overnight crews recovered the bodies of two women, they're still searching for two men who were with them. Saturday morning Georgia DNR Law Enforcement identified the two women as 45-year old Melissa Renee McMahan of Mount Washington, KY and 44 year old Tammy Reece of Columbia, KY.  Authorities are still searching for 46 year old Arthur Gene McMahan of Mount Washington, KY and 44 year old Anthony Reese of Columbia, KY.

Major Stephen Adams with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Law Enforcement Division said emergency crews found the 38-foot Tunnel Hull racing vessel just west of cocktail cove after receiving a 911 call. There were no signs of a pilot or passengers in the immediate area.

A dive team with the Hall County Fire Department performed rescue operations in the water until their supplies at the scene ran out, according to Major Adams. Additional divers with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office were brought in to take over the search.

Crews will continue to perform sonar and sector scans through the overnight hours when the lake is less congested. They are asking boaters in the area to use idle speed and give a wide berth near their efforts.

Witness told investigators that the boat was traveling south on the lake when it encountered a wake and overturned. Rescuers found the boat partially submerged. Investigators are looking into if speed was a factor in the accident.

Major Adams said they believe the boat was in town for the annual Pirates of Lanier Poker Run on Saturday. Adams said they are not ready to release the names of those aboard the vessel, but did confirm the four were from out of town.
