POLICE: Leitchfield man shot and killed after forcing entry into ex-girlfriend's home
Authorities say the man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Grayson County Deputy Coroner.
LEITCHFIELD, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say one man is dead after forcing his way into the home of his ex-girlfriend on Saturday night.
According to the Grayson County Sheriff's Department, dispatchers received a call on Saturday around 9:22 p.m. from a woman advising that her ex-boyfriend, 43-year-old Patrick Dewayne Decker of Leitchfield, "had busted in her front door and caused her to fire several shots at him when he entered her home."
Officials say Decker came to her residence and began banging on the windows and doors, eventually kicking in the door and entering her home. The woman then fired several shots at him, according to police. Decker ran a couple hundred feet towards his parent's residence before collapsing in the driveway. The sheriff's department said it appeared that Decker was shot in the chest at least one time.
Authorities say Decker was pronounced dead at the scene by the Grayson County Deputy Coroner.
Police say there was an active domestic violence order against Decker, but that order had recently been amended to allow Decker to stay in his parent’s home, which was next door to his ex-girlfriend, as long as he did not commit any further acts of violence. Decker was asked by family members, his ex-girlfriend and the courts to stay away from her home and not to have any contact or communication with her.
According to police, Decker has a criminal history that includes burglary, rape, kidnapping and assault. According to the sheriff's release, his ex-girlfriend feared for her life and the life of her 11-year-old son, who was also present during the home invasion.
Decker’s body was sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the case.
