LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a death investigation is underway in Floyd County.

Officials were sent to the scene of a reported car fire on State Road 335 in Greenville on Sunday around 6:30 a.m., according to a release from the Floyd County Sheriff's Department.

Floyd County police officers and members of the Greenville Fire Department arrived and found a vehicle off the road that was engulfed in flames.

Authorities say the vehicle's occupant, 31-year-old Darrell Kilgore, of Louisville, died at the scene.

An autopsy on Kilgore's body was completed Monday and officials are waiting for toxicology results. Officials say the cause of death was smoke inhalation.

Police are continuing to investigate.
