U of L receives nearly $8 million to conduct alcohol study

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The University of Louisville won nearly $8 million to study how alcohol affects the human body.

The university's Alcohol Research Center is one of only 20 centers in the nation, and it's the only center that focuses on nutrition.

The grant money will help fund four projects that will look at how nutrition and alcohol abuse affect different organs.

Researchers also plan to study the potential benefits of alcohol. Officials say alcohol abuse is the third leading preventable cause of death.
