Kentucky delegates say Trump earned nomination through primary process

Posted: Updated:

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WDRB) -- The small but vocal anti-Trump movement is officially dead.

This is Donald Trump's convention.

Earlier Monday, Republican party officials muscled through a vote that effectively ended the effort to free the delegates to vote their conscience.

The move caused a huge eruption on the convention floor.

But members of Kentucky's delegation say they're OK that the effort to derail Trump is over.

"We have a system in this country where people go vote, and we have a system where you get delegates," Linda Huber said. "He clearly won the vote, and therefore, he's entitled to his delegates. I think it's as clear as that."

Kentucky delegates say the party must now come together and focus their energy on stopping Hillary Clinton.

"The truth is that Donald Trump has energized more primary voters than any other candidate we've seen," Julie Raque Adams, another delegate, said. "He consistently won primary after primary after primary all the way through the end. I think he's the rightful nominee. He won the elections."
