LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kathy Hansford woke up to every parent's worst nightmare.

"A detective and a coroner knocked on my door at 6:15 this morning," she said.

The news was about her son, 29-year-old Brandon Hansford.

"They told me that there had been a fatal shooting, and Brandon had been shot, and he was dead."

Police were called to a home on Upper Hunters Trace near Wellsworth Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Monday.

Officers were initially called to investigate a car that ran into a home's garage. But when police arrived, they found Hansford in the driver's seat, shot to death.

"I guess I went into shock. Like please wake up," Kathy Hansford said. "This can't be happening. Not my son. Not my son."

Kathy Hansford says it appears her son was trying to get home as he was driving in that direction.

She also has suspicions of who is the shooter is, saying he was stalked and had been attacked by a guy before.

Police have yet to name suspects.

Brandon worked at Auto Zone and was a father himself. His son will turn four in just a few weeks.

"He was a wonderful person," said Amber Duvall, Brandon's cousin. "Nobody deserves this."

The family has set up a GoFundMe page asking for donations.

"It would mean the world to us," Duvall said. "We've been through so much as a family in the past two and a half years."

"Please, please help, help my family," Kathy Hansford said. "And help me bury my son."
