Corydon community continues to search for, and hide from, roaming black bear

Posted: Updated:

CORYDON, Ind. (WDRB) -- A chopper searched from the sky, a drone hovered, hoping for a look, and then others just stayed on the ground.

It didn't matter where you were, the goal was to a get glimpse of the black bear that was spotted both Sunday night and Monday morning in Corydon, Ind.

"Of course, you don't want to really come upon it," one neighbor said.

While it hasn't been confirmed, officials say they believe this bear is the same bear that was spotted several weeks back in Hardin County, Ky

"This is not something we deal with every day," said Jim Shreck, an Indiana Conservation Officer.

Officials believe the bear actually got into Harrison County by first crossing the Ohio River, then traveling on all fours another 16 miles or so before finally arriving in Corydon.

Two options are left according to the Indiana department of natural resources.

Option A -- Catch the bear in a barrel trap, which was put in place on Monday

Option B -- Leave the bear alone to roam around the area

Over the past 140 years, this is only the second confirmed black bear sighting in all of Indiana.
