LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- As the temperatures climb, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer shared tips on how to keep cool.

On Wednesday, the mayor reminded everyone to take care of those who are more vulnerable to the heat, including children, the elderly and pets.

He says there are specific precautions people should take to make sure they stay safe. "Number one, stay cool. Number two, stay hydrated. Number three, stay informed. Pay attention to the weather forecasts and look ahead. Know the heat index and plan activities accordingly," said Mayor Fischer.

On Friday, Neighborhood Place will give out more than 400 free fans to senior citizens without air conditioning. People who are interested can call 311 or 211 to find the closest Neighborhood Place location.

The mayor offered other free solutions to staying cool, such as visiting one of the city's free splash parks or free community areas with air conditioning.
