LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A car that was stolen with more than 200 costumes inside has been found, but there's still no sign of the costumes.

CenterStage Artistic Director John Leffert took to Facebook Wednesday evening with the update.

The '50s and '60s style costumes were in Leffert's car stolen Monday from the driveway of his St. Matthews home. Leffert says the car has been trashed, and has extensive damage. And the costumes were gone.

Those costumes are used in performances at the Jewish Community Center, as well as productions across the area.

In an interview with WDRB on July 19, Leffert said the costumes are "vintage pieces from the 1950s, 1960s, that still exist from that period. "They say they don’t make clothes like they used to, and they truly don’t."

According to Leffert, the costumes are not just for CenterStage. They are loaned to other theatre groups for productions and performances all over the area.

On Thursday, CenterStage released the following statement through its PR rep, Alexandra Ramsay:

On Wednesday, CenterStage Artistic Director John Leffert’s car was located. Unfortunately, there was nothing in the car. CenterStage will ultimately have to replace the hundreds of costumes that were stolen. Because costumes are made for specific productions and tailored for individual actors, we cannot accept clothing donations. If you feel moved to help CenterStage, monetary donations would be incredibly helpful as the costumes will likely have to be rebuilt by a professional. Donations can be made online at centerstagejcc.org.
