LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officers with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department have arrested a man after he allegedly slashed the tires on a car and stole a cell phone.

According to the arrest warrant, it happened July 15. That's when police say 22-year-old Patrick Hardin slashed all four tires on the victim's 1998 Honda Civic, causing an estimate $1,000 in damaged. Police say Hardin then broke into the car by "prying the door open" and stole a cell phone and accessories valued at more than $500.

Police say the victim's daughter was using the car to visit a friend when it happened. According to police, Hardin and the victim have a child together. Police say she tried unsuccessfully to get the cell phone back from Hardin.

Hardin is also accused of stealing merchandise from Meijer. According to the arrest warrant, Hardin was banned from the stores on June 23, and signed a form acknowledging that he knew he was not allowed in any Meijer store. That same day, police say Hardin entered a Meijers and tried to steal a replacement part for a car stereo without paying for it.

Hardin was arrested on July 20. He is charged with criminal mischief, theft by unlawful taking, shoplifting and criminal trespassing.
