Delegates react enthusiastically to Donald Trump's acceptance speech

CLEVELAND (WDRB) -- Donald Trump accepted the Republican presidential nomination Thursday in a speech that focused on safety, immigration, and bashing Democrats.

Delegates from Kentucky say Trump's speech hit all the right conservative notes, but what was really epic was the celebration as Kentuckians launched Trump and Pence on the road to the White House.

"This is may eleventh convention," said Rep. Hal Rogers, R-Kentucky. "This is the most energetic."

Rogers went on to say that Trump's speech was long, but full of content. "So I thought it was good."

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin was exuberant as thousands of balloons dropped from the ceiling to close the Republican National Convention.

"Outstanding!" Bevin said. "Millions of balloons -- what's not to love!"

Lt. Gov. Jenean Hampton thought Trump's speech was on point.

"He hit several points," Hampton said. "I'm not crazy about his style, but it's just a matter of style, but the substance was there."

Kentucky State Treasurer says Trump's acceptance speech resonated with voters.

"There were moments when he was espousing very strong, Conservative pro-American principles," Ball said. "You could hear the audience really responding to that. And I think as Kentuckians they'll respond to that too."

Bevin says Trump was Presidential.

"If people were watching this speech tonight and did not see the next President of the United States, if they did not hear the Conservative message and the future hope and possibility of greatness in this country, they were not paying attention. I thought it was outstanding," Bevin said.

For many in the Kentucky delegation, Cleveland was their first convention. And despite the reported conflicts and controversies, they leave impressed and encouraged.

"To see the Constitutional process at work, and to see the whole energy and spirit of this has been very eye-opening, very educational for me," said Vivek Sarin, who came from Shelbyville to attend the convention.

It has been exciting and exhausting, but delegates now know the party is over, and the real work begins.
