LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Defender Newspaper hosted its annual West Louisville Metro Appreciation Festival Saturday.

The free event included a variety of activities, such as live music, food, games and a 5K run.

The festival continues tomorrow, which will be Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

Organizers say they're aware of the negative attention that police have been getting, and it's important to create a positive environment for law enforcement.

"You know, it says that Louisville ... we can come together. And that's, in my opinion, that's what gonna bring peace to everything. Because we've got to come together in order to talk, in order to come up with some solutions, we got to come together," said Yvonne Bach, assistant publisher and editor, Louisville Defender.

This was the 36th year for the festival.
