LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jeffersontown Police say a tense situation inside an area hotel led to a man's arrest, resulting in several frightened children.

According to an arrest report, it happened at the Ramada Inn at 9700 Bluegrass Parkway, near the interchange between I-64 and S. Hurstbourne Parkway, just after 6:30 p.m on Friday.

Jeffersontown Police say they were sent to the hotel to assist a Georgetown Police officer who was dealing with a man who was causing trouble there.

But before the officers arrived, the suspect, 34-year-old John Warner, allegedly pulled a knife on the Georgetown Police officer. He then ran into Room #2143, just as a young girl -- a complete stranger -- was opening the door.

Police say there were several frightened children inside, and that the kids' mother -- who came out of another room -- told officers that she had no idea who Warner was.

Police banged loudly on the door and shouted several times, "Police! Open the door!" Police say they could hear "several kids in the room, who were scared."

Hotel managers went to get a key, but shortly thereafter, one of the children in the room opened the door.

According to the arrest report, officers quickly entered the room and found "several kids huddled in the corner."

Police say Warner was standing at the window. Officers pulled their guns, and told Warner to show his hands and get down on the floor. According to the arrest report, Warner not only refused, but he "came at the officers in a threatening manner, with his fists clenched." Police say Warner, "continued towards officers aggressively, still refusing commands." One of the officers eventually hit him in the face with a flashlight, "which gave officers time to holster guns."

Police say Warner then assumed a "fighting stance," bringing up his fists, when the Georgetown Police officer pulled him down to the bed. The police were eventually were able to subdue him and arrest him.

According to the arrest report, a knife was found in his pocket.

Police say Warner's actions, "barricading himself in a room with children, armed with a knife, wantonly placed innocent children in a dangerous situation."

Additionally, police say Warner tried to hide drug paraphernalia in the bathroom of the room.

Warner is now charged with resisting arrest, unlawful imprisonment, menacing, criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia, three counts of wanton endangerment and first degree burglary.

He is currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
