Protests by Bernie Sanders supporters create uncertainty among delegates

Posted: Updated:

PHILADELPHIA (WDRB) -- Hundreds of Bernie Sanders supporters spent Monday night chanting and holding signs at the Democratic National Convention.

Some of them were outside Philadelphia City Hall for protests.

"I do think today has been tense at different points, but Bernie Sanders supporters, more than anything else right now, want to feel acknowledged, and his presence is an acknowledgement to us," said Maria Kupper, a Kentucky delegate.

Even before he took the stage, Sanders' supporters were some of the loudest at the Wells Fargo Center, trying to make it heard that they believed he is the rightful nominee.

"I'm concerned about the division in our party, but I think with Bernie speaking tonight, he is the only person that can make a difference," said Cindy Henry, a Kentucky delegate. "I want us to have a big umbrella with unity. That is what Democrats stand for. We have room for everyone, but the Bernie delegates think he was slighted. It's hard to explain, but there is a unified party in there."

DNC officials hope the Bernie supporters and the Clinton supporters will unify by the end of the week.
