LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police have arrested a Louisville man authorities say assaulted a victim and caused the person to lose consciousness.

Alexander Carpenter, 25, was arrested Tuesday morning on Shelbyville Road, according to a police report.

Police say that on April 21, Carpenter hit the victim in the face with a closed fist and caused "serious injury." Officials say Carpenter and the victim were in a group and that during an argument, Carpenter allegedly hit the victim in the face with a closed fist. The victim lost consciousness as a result, according to police.

Police say the victim went to the hospital for treatment of a broken jaw. The victim's jaw was broken in two places, requiring surgery "to place a plate and six screws." Authorities also say the victim suffered a concussion.

Carpenter is charged with assault. He is being held on a $10,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
