HEADS UP: Boaters warned not to stop under bridges during construction

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials with the Ohio River Bridges Project are warning boaters to remember the Kennedy Bridge and the new East End bridge are active work zones, and are not areas where boaters should stop or slow down to watch the work.

According to a news release, construction crews have noticed several boats slowing down or stopping near the Kennedy and the East End bridge to watch the work, or seek shade in the area.

Boaters should not stop under these work zones. A great deal of activity is underway on both the Kennedy Bridge and the East End bridge. Some of the work includes bolts and other loose items that have the potential to fall below.

Crews with Walsh Construction are in the midst of installing a new floor system on the Kennedy Bridge. Much of the east side of the deck of the Kennedy is open following recent demolition work.

The best place to watch progress on the Kennedy Bridge and the new East End bridge is on the project website, www.kyinbridges.com.
