LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LMPD officers pounded the pavement Tuesday night, trying to get to know the people they serve.

Chief Steve Conrad and Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin were among those joining in the "Chief's Peace Walk" in the Newburg neighborhood.

The event was intended to encourage people to meet their neighbors and the officers who patrol their neighborhood and give residents a chance to learn how to make their community safer.

"This community is a really nice community," Shanklin said. "The crime rate has really dropped out here, and it's all because the police come to the meetings. The police are involved out here, and we want everyone to be involved."

Chief Conrad has been holding these peace walks with metro council members in neighborhoods around the city.
