Hillary Clinton makes history in accepting presidential nomination

Posted: Updated:

PHILADELPHIA (WDRB) -- It has been a week of ups and downs for the Democratic party, but tonight, Hillary Clinton became the first woman to accept the nomination for president of the United States.

She took the stage just after 10 p.m., following her daughter, Chelsea, who spoke of their strong family values.

"I am so grateful to be her daughter," Chelsea Clinton told the Wells Fargo Center crowd. "She makes me proud every single day. And Mom? Grandma would be so proud of you tonight."

Hillary Clinton took the stage to a huge roar from the DNC patrons, who had waited four days to witness the historic moment.

"No one gets through life alone," she said. We have to look out for each other."

That was a central theme of much of her speech. She spoke of divisiveness at the Republican National Convention, using that narrative to preach of a collective effort.

"None of us can raise a family, build a business, heal a community or lift a country totally alone.”

And then, near the middle of her speech around 10:45 p.m., she made it official.

"It is with humility, determination, and boundless confidence in America’s promise that I accept your nomination for president!"
