Chicken car parks in Louisville to spread awareness for mental illness

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Three guys are on a two-month journey in a chicken car.

It's a 1993 Fox-body Mustang with a giant chicken on top, and on Thursday, it parked in Louisville.

But there's more to the story.

Three University of Illinois students are driving the car across the U.S. as part of a mental illness awareness tour.

They're visiting 48 states to share their experiences with mental health issues and hand out information on warning signs and how to get help.

The chicken car is just a fun way to get the conversation started.

"It was just kind of a quirky deal to get people to pay attention to us," Nate Perez said. "It has worked pretty well."

The students have just three stops left on their summer tour: Indianapolis, Chicago, then back home.
