CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A police officer is without a home after lightning ignited a fire near Campbellsville, Ky.

Officer Eddie Dockery works for the Hodgenville Police Department. His wife and son escaped through a window in their rental house after the fire started early Wednesday morning.

“He got off duty, and he was on his way home when he gets a call from his wife saying the house is on fire,” said Chief Marcus Jackson of the Hodgenville Police Department.

Officer Dockery did not have renters insurance, so the department is trying to do what it can to raise money and collect donations.

“In law enforcement, as well as throughout all emergency services, we are a family. We have each other's back," Chief Jackson said. "If one of us needs help in some way, we're gonna do our best to help them."

Allen McDonald, a friend of the officer, says they are in need of additional clothing for the wife and son.

“We appreciate the support of one of our brothers in blue at the police department … They're the ones that protect us, and now he's needing help,” McDonald said.
