First-time Mega Million ticket purchase pays off big for Hoosier couple

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A couple of lifelong Hoosiers are millions of dollars richer today.

A family representative accepted the check on behalf of the big Mega Millions winners from earlier this month. The family wants to remain anonymous.
They are pocketing a whopping $536 million before taxes.

Lauren Littlefield says it was the first time the couple had played Mega Millions.

"So this was the first time they'd actually purchased Mega Millions tickets, they had done Powerball in the past. And it was a spur of the moment 'hey, the jackpot is pretty high so let's take a shot.'"

It's the largest prize in the history of Hoosier Lottery and the largest single winning ticket for Mega Millions.

The winning ticket was sold in Cambridge City.
