LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thousands of kids had full stomachs this summer thanks to JCPS.

Its free summer food program served more than 2,400 breakfasts and 3,900 lunches every day. JCPS Superintendent Donna Hargens says for some students, school is the only place they can depend on eating.

Meals were served at 140 different locations, including county schools and Bus Stop Cafes.

Officials say the breakfast program increased more than 27 percent since last year.

JCPS students return to class on Aug. 10.
