Community honors memory of Kentucky mother found dismembered in Green River

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A community horrified by how a young woman died honored her memory Friday night.

Friends of Kristen Edwards came together in Cave City to celebrate her life.

They released balloons with messages to Kristen or their favorite memory of her.

Edwards' remains were found by a fisherman in a tote bag in the Green River last Saturday.

Her mother says she's still trying to cope with it.

I'm numb," Angie Ponce said. "You know, I really can't feel what I need to feel over this. I'm still in shock ... I'm just really mad that someone could do this to a human being, especially someone so sweet."

Edwards was a mother of two who lived near where her remains were found.

Kentucky State Police have yet to release any information about how or when she died.
