Indianapolis police officer accused of shooting a detective arrested

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WDRB) -- An off-duty Indianapolis police officer accused of shooting an on-duty detective is arrested in Cincinnati.

A witness describes the scene Friday night on the southeast side of Indianapolis.

Police say the detective was called to a home for a domestic situation between Adrian Aurs, 42, and his wife.

When that detective arrived, police say, Aurs started shooting, hitting the detective twice.

Police in Cincinnati say their officers spotted Aurs' car on the highway, and he was taken into custody.

"Luckily we had the swat teams out working tonight so, having those officers with their expertise and training on scene was invaluable tonight in making this all work out," Cincinnati PD Captain Jim Gramke said.

The detective is hospitalized in good condition.

Police say Aurs will be charged with attempted murder.

The 18-year veteran of the department has been suspended without pay and will likely lose his job.
