Street Rod National convention returns to Louisville with 4th Street Live! parade
If you noticed a little extra traffic on the roads this morning, it may be because thousands of old-fashioned cars are in town.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- If you noticed a little extra traffic on the roads this morning, it may be because thousands of old-fashioned cars are in town.
The Street Rod Nationals Convention is back in Louisville for its 22nd year, and the weekend event is expected to bring in a substantial amount of money to the city.
The parade was rolling through 4th Street Live! Wednesday afternoon. About 11,000 cars and more than 30,000 people were there for the event. The cars started at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and drove to 4th Street Live!
A press conference is scheduled to take place Wednesday afternoon to kick off the events that start tomorrow.
If you're bringing the family out to see the cars, there will be events scheduled at the Kentucky Expo Center until Sunday -- but you're also almost guaranteed to see them around town.
"This is the type of convention or event that's very visible," said Doris Sims of the Louisville Visitors Bureau. "If you have a regular teachers convention, you may not know they're here. But when the street rods come to town, you see them everywhere. They're in the restaurants, they're in the hotels, but the best place to see them is at the Kentucky Expo Center."
According to the Louisville Visitors Bureau, thousands of visitors means about $13 million brought to the area.
