ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Elizabethtown police officer who was seriously injured after he was dragged 100 feet through a mall parking lot has been released from the hospital.

According to a news release from the Elizabethtown Police Department, Officer Ron Caffee was released from the hospital Aug. 4. The release says he will "continue physical and occupational therapy for the foreseeable future."

Police say Caffee was injured when he tried to arrest 34-year-old Alex Dowell on July 9. According to the arrest report, Dowell was stopped around 8 p.m. for "riding a four-wheeler in the roadway" near Towne Mall.

As officers were running Dowell's information, he tried to ride off. That’s when Caffee, a 3-year veteran of the E'town Police Department, "grabbed [Dowell’s] shirt attempting to stop him."

Arrest documents indicate Caffee was dragged "100 feet through the mall parking lot" causing him to hit his head on the pavement.

Dowell is charged with first-degree assault and fleeing and evading police.
