GE operations manager named new JCPS transportation director

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A longtime transportation and operations manager with General Electric has been named the new transportation director of Jefferson County Public Schools.

Randy Frantz, who is currently operations manager at GE's national sales center, will start Aug. 18, but he is scheduled to meet with some JCPS employees today and will shadow first week of school activities next week.

"I feel I can bring in something from the outside with a different set of eyes and we have a great team in JCPS," he said in an interview with WDRB on Friday. "Our main goal is getting kids to and from school on time and within budget."

Frantz is a native of Louisville and a graduate of Atherton High School. He has two sons who attend Ballard High School.

He replaces Rick Caple, the district's former longtime transportation director who retired this summer.

Approximately 70,000 of the district's 101,000 students ride buses to and from school daily.

Frantz's appointment comes as the district continues to negotiate a wage contract with its employees.

The first day of school is Aug. 10. Frantz's first day on the job will be Aug. 18, but he will be shadowing a few days before he starts.

His pay has been set at $140,000 a year.
