LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Homicide detectives are investigating after a man's body was found early Friday behind a home on the 3300 block of Taylor Blvd., near Oleanda Avenue and west of Churchill Downs.

A woman who lives in the home tells WDRB she found the man's body early in the morning. Police responded around 9:30 a.m.

"Me and my man friend, we found him dead this morning," Latonia Padon said. "When we walked outside this morning, he was on the ground, dead, on his back."

The victim, who has not been identified is in his late 40s.

Jonathan Garland says he was family.

"My uncle, man, he was a good guy. Despite having problems like a lot of us do, he wouldn't have hurt a fly," Garland said. "He's from the Cincinnati Ohio area. He recently moved to Louisville from Las Vegas. He recently lost his spouse of 32 years. So he just came home to be with family."

Latonia says he is a good friend and she was letting him stay at the house because he had nowhere else to go.

"He made me laugh, he would always talk to me. That's why I know he's a good man and he will be missed," Padon said.

Police say they believe foul play was involved, but have not yet released a cause of death.

Padon says when she found him, "he looked like he had been hit."

"As far as I can tell, he was beaten to death," Garland said.
