LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man accused of staring at a little boy through a bathroom stall at a Highlands restaurant was in court Friday.

Forty-nine-year-old David Gladstone is accused of following a 7-year-old boy into the restroom at Ditto's Restaurant on Bardstown Road on June 27. Investigators say when the boy went into the stall Gladstone stared at him through the crack between the stall and the door, then went inside the stall and continued staring.

Police say Gladstone then allegedly told the victim, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry."

Two hours later, police say the boy told his father what happened. The boy's father then went back to the restaurant and reviewed video footage, before calling police and filing a report.

Gladstone's attorneys say he suffers from mental illness. He pleaded not guilty to voyeurism and menacing.

He's due back in court Aug. 15.
