Planned Parenthood fighting to block Indiana mandate requiring ultrasounds before abortions

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The abortion fight between Indiana and Planned Parenthood is going to court.

Planned Parenthood is trying to block the state's new mandate that women undergo an ultrasound at least 18 hours before an abortion.

A U.S. District Court judge set a Nov. 9 hearing on the case.

Planned Parenthood sued the state of Indiana after the mandate took effect on July 1. It argued it was unconstitutional, and would prevent some women from having abortions.

Proponents of the mandate argue that it ensures women are well informed before choosing whether or not to have an abortion.
