LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Some screamed Happy New Year. Others will wait until the first game of the college football season.

Either way, you’re happy that football is back – a moment we will celebrate with a Minnesota Vikings (Teddy Bridgewater) at Cincinnati Bengals game Friday at 7:30 on WDRB (Ch. 41) as well as the Indianapolis Colts at Buffalo Bills Saturday at 7 p.m. on WMYO (Ch. 58).

By my count, at least 18 players with local college connections played in the six NFL exhibition games Thursday night.

Disclaimer: The number is likely higher because my rundown does not include offensive linemen or defenders who did not make tackles. There is also a chance I overlooked a player. If so, send me the name and I’ll happily add him to the list.

Here is how the locals performed on Opening Night:

LOUISVILLE

Sheldon Rankins, New Orleans, defensive line, one solo tackle

Senorise Perry, Chicago, halfback, one carry for 2 yards; one reception for 4 yards.

Josh Bellamy, Chicago, receiver, three receptions for 26 yards.

Bilal Powell, New York Jets, halfback, four carries for 13 yards, one touchdown.

Lorenzo Mauldin, New York Jets, linebacker, one solo tackle, one assisted tackle.

James Sample, Jacksonville, safety, three solo tackles.
