LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a 4-year-old girl rushed to Kosair Children's Hospital with a gunshot wound last night shot herself with a stolen weapon.

According to Louisville Metro Police, the girl sustained a gunshot wound inside an apartment in the 1200 block of Brashear Drive in the Algonquin neighborhood.

She is expected to be okay, and police tell us no further updates on her condition will be given, unless her condition becomes life-threatening.

According to LMPD spokeswoman Alicia Smiley, police detectives have learned that the weapon had been stolen -- and that the girl shot herself. Neither the child's mother, nor her boyfriend claimed ownership of the weapon.

At this point, charges have not been filed against anyone, though police say that may change.

If you have any information about this incident, you're asked to call 574-LMPD.
