LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly spent an hour in a firefighter's shoes Friday morning.

The U.S. lawmaker shadowed firefighters at the New Albany Fire Department. Donnelly got hands-on experience simulating a fire rescue using the same equipment firefighters use everyday.

"This is about saving lives and having the right equipment and the people who put their lives on the line everyday so that the rest of us can be safe," Donnelly said.

The Senator's visit is all part of his "Donnelly Days" program where he works alongside a number of Hoosiers in different jobs to learn the important issues impacting the community.
