LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's a flashback to more than 70 years ago.

"It's a celebration of basically the end of World War II. Honoring a lot of the people who gave so much," Tim Evans, River City Radio Controllers, said.

World War II came to a close 71 years ago this weekend, on August 14th, 1945.

To mark the date, groups from around Louisville and the country came together at Bowman Field for Spirit of '45.

U of L faculty and alumni shared their personal memorabilia from the war, as well as model airplane collections.

"It is our opportunity to pass along to the next two or three generations the importance of history and the importance of what this country did now 70 plus years ago," Dell Courtney, Spirit of '45, said.

Veterans were also given a variety of services at the event, including free dental exams and x-rays from the U of L School of Dentistry.

This was the second year for the event.
